The Slide Inn is a Modern American, German restaurant serving a healthy, innovative cuisine with global influences. Chef/Owner Eugen Bingham redefines American classics drawing inspiration from his world travels.
This restaurant is a creative blend of talent. The husband and wife team Eugen Bingham and Lenor Bingham who brought il Piatto to the Portland community over 17 years ago, are proud to introduce The Slide Inn.
Story:
In the early 1970’s, Eugen’s family bought and ran a small Inn in the Northern Sierra Mountains called, “The Slide Inn“. It was in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by mountains and snow. The decor of the Slide Inn was rustic with a mid century modern decor. Eleven year-old Eugen soon became the cook, preparing American and German cuisine. Eugen learned the joy of cooking from his mother Louise who was determined to bring a slice of Germany to this American Inn. After his parents divorced, Eugen and his Mother moved to Germany, where Eugen began a Chef’s apprenticeship. His mother returned to the States but Eugen stayed on in Europe where he lived for 10 years and honed his skills working at many notable top restaurants.

The food
Chef Eugen prepares organic and local ingredients when available, with a great many dishes made in-house. Traditional favorites are served such as hamburgers, house made sausages and unique Fondue choices, but it doesn’t end there. There are many options for vegetarians and gluten free diets. For breakfast, Kaiserschmarrn, which was originally prepared for the Kaiser in Austria, it can be enjoyed along with our gluten free roasted yam waffle with ground clove served with your choice of house made syrups. Another healthy and delicious option is our vegan rice flour waffle. A majority of our breakfast and dinner menus can be prepared as gluten free!
Decor:
The decor of the current Slide Inn is a reflection of the past. It integrates elements of the original Slide Inn, with a contemporary ambiance.
A German Inn traditionally offers a place for locals to congregate and unwind, in cozy atmosphere, with fantastic food. A Stammtisch (A communal long table) brings people together to bond. Slide Inn provides this experience.
